Requesting Original Documents – Wills and Lasting Powers of Attorney (LPAs)
Please read the information below carefully and ensure you provide all required details and documentation.
As we continue to operate remotely, there may be slight delays in processing your request.
How to Request Your Documents
- Complete the ‘Release of Documents’ form at the bottom of this page, providing all required details.
- Once submitted, the form will be sent to our Administration Team, who will contact you to arrange a suitable time for collection.
- Please allow up to 10 working days for us to retrieve documents from storage and prepare them for collection.
Wills
- Original Will:
- Can only be released to the Testator (the person who made the Will).
- Photo ID and proof of address will be required.
- Certified Copies:
- Charged at £5 per certified page
- Please allow up to 7 working days for preparation.
Lasting Powers of Attorney (LPAs)
- Attorneys must provide photo ID and proof of address.
- Certified copies are charged at £65 per document.
- Please allow up to 7 working days for certified copies.
Releasing Documents to Someone Else
If you wish to authorise another person to collect your documents:
- Complete the ‘Release of Documents’ form.
- The Administration Team will contact you to arrange collection.
For Wills:
- If the Testator is deceased, the original Will can only be released to the Executor(s) named in the Will.
- Executors must provide:
- The Testator’s death certificate.
- Photo ID and proof of address.
- Written consent from all named Executors (if more than one).
For Attorneys:
- Attorneys can only receive a photocopy of the Will (not the original) upon providing:
- A copy of the LPA or Enduring Power of Attorney.
- Photo ID and proof of address (all attorneys, if appointed jointly).
For LPAs:
- The original or certified copies will only be released to named attorneys who:
- Provide a letter of consent from the donor (the person who made the LPA); or
- Supply a letter from a medical professional confirming the donor has lost capacity.
